TDS & TCS Master Reference
(Updated for Tax Year 2026–27 under Income Tax Act, 2025)
Master TDS & TCS reference: The tables below present the TDS sections and common TCS items, now aligned with the Income Tax Act, 2025 (effective 1st April 2026). TDS provisions are consolidated under Section 393 and TCS under Section 394, with old section numbers (192, 194A, 194C etc.) retained alongside for reference. Tax Year 2026–27 threshold changes are highlighted separately below.
About this Reference
This page is split into categories for easier reading. The Master Table contains every section with the following columns:
- Section (Old / New) — Old Income Tax Act 1961 section number, with new Section 393/394 table code.
- Nature of Payment — Brief description of the payment type.
- TDS / TCS Rate — The applicable rate(s) — largely unchanged in value, only re-coded
- Threshold / Conditions — Thresholds, special conditions, or notes.
Salary & Employment
192, 192A (EPF) → now reported via Form 130 (replaces Form 16). TDS as per slab / special 10% on premature EPF > ₹50,000.
Interest & Securities
193, 194A, 196D, 196C etc. — now under Section 393 table entries. Typical rates: 10% for many interest items; senior citizen threshold raised to ₹1,00,000.
Dividends & Mutual Funds
194, 194K. 10% threshold ₹10,000 continues.
Lottery / Gaming
194B, 194BB, 194BA — still 30% withholding; online gaming has no minimum threshold.
Contractors & Professionals
194C, 194J(a), 194J(b), 194M — contractor/professional withholding (1%/2%/2%/10%) unchanged.
Rent & Property
194I, 194IA, 194IC, 194LA — rent threshold now ₹6,00,000/year (was ₹2,40,000).
Non-residents & Offshore
194LB, 194LBA, 194LBB, 194LBC, 194LC, 196B, 196C, 196D. Note: Section 194LD has been deprecated w.e.f. 1 April 2026.
Capital Gains & Misc
Section 195 covers cross-border payments; 195/196 series cover capital gains & royalty.
Highlight Notes (Tax Year 2026–27):
FY 2025–26: Revised thresholds for many sections (see FY Changes table below).
Section 206AB repealed — compliance relief for some deductors.
New Section 194T inserted (TDS on partner’s remuneration at 10%).

Other Tax Year 2026–27 Notes: Entire TDS structure moved to Section 393 (numeric payment codes 1001–1067); TCS moved to Section 394; Form 16, 15G/15H, 26AS and 26A replaced by Forms 130, 121, 168 and 149 respectively; Forms 26QB/26QC/26QD/26QE merged into single Form 141; TAN numbers remain unchanged.

Note: Section 206C(1H) (TCS on Sale of Goods exceeding ₹50 lakh) has been omitted with effect from 1 April 2025. Accordingly, sellers are no longer required to collect TCS under this provision for transactions from FY 2025–26 onwards.
